10 Bad Foods For Your Dog

13/9/2016

Begging dog, Bad food for dog, don't feed your dog this food, 10 bad things, begging dogMacy getting her beg on in the kitchen!
I absolutely adore little Macy!  She is so much fun to have around.  So like any one, inspiration must hit as crazy times of the day.  Here we are at 5:02 am talking about our pet and why I want to keep her around.  So, Macy, she is full of energy and has some major skill at begging.  Don’t all dogs?  Maybe some are better than others?  When I sit down to eat, I always find her right by my side ready to join me! It never fails, in the middle of the night (I work nights) I go looking for a snack and there she is soon to follow (about the time the fridge door opens).
I want to keep her around and maybe even get another little pet one day.  So having said that, I assume many of you would like to keep your little furry family member around for a while.  Let’s talk about some bad foods for pets.  As I researched this, I realized, while Macy really wanted some of my food, there are things that I have fed her that just are not good for her long term health!
So let’s talk about 10 bad foods for your dog or even for your cat! (According to WebMD cats are similar to dogs).

1. Avocado

Who would have thought that Avocado is bad for your pet? Many times I have given the remainder of avocado to Macy and she seemed to enjoy it.  My thinking is Dogs would scavenge if I didn’t feed them and they might eat this anyway.

WOW: Avocado contain persin.  As long as you are not allergic to it, it’s ok for you.  If you feed this to your pet in large amounts it could be toxic to them!  So if you grow them keep your pets away.

2. Alcohol

Let’s get drunk!  Sure, many of us have been at the party where people try to get the dog drunk.  NONE of it is good for your dog!  Beer, Wine, Liquor, and even foods containing alcohol are not good for your dog.

WOW: Letting your pet “get drunk” is foolish!  Alcohol is damaging to your liver and the same is true to your dog.  The thing is, it takes way less alcohol to hurt your pet.  It can cause vomiting, diarrhea, central nervous system depression, difficulty breathing, a coma, OR DEATH!  The smaller the dog, the greater the effects this drink is going to have!  So if you want to keep you bud around longer keep the Bud away!

3. Onion & Garlic

I love me some fajitas!  Macy loves that chicken and even some of the other stuff as well.  Well, all forms of onion and garlic are bad for your pet.

GET THIS: So maybe a small amount every now and then may be ok according to WebMD, consistent feeding of this food can poison that little one you love sooooooo much! This food in large quantities or constant eating can cause the symptoms of anemia.  Those symptoms can include weakness, vomiting, little interest in food, dullness, and breathlessness.

4. Coffee and Teas

We love coffee and tea, but it is a drink not for your pet.  Just a short little idea on what it can do.  It can cause restlessness, muscle tremors, and fits.  Just don’t give your pet anything with caffeine if you love them! There is not an antidote if you give them this drink

5. Grapes

We all know grapes are bad for dogs.  Well actually I didn’t.  Depending on the size of your pet and the amount they eat you could actually kill your pet! Don’t give them even one grape.  Grapes have nasty effects on your pets!

WOW: Grapes and raisins can cause kidney failure!  Just a small amount and you can make you dog ill.  Within a day your pet will become lethargic and depressed.  So keep those little kidneys safe and keep all those grapes and raisins away!

6. Dairy

So I love ice cream, Rochel loves ice cream, and Macy loves to beg for ice cream.  Those eyes and tucked back though, can be hard to resist.  Dairy products are actually not that great for your pet.  They can cause diarrhea and other digestive issues.  I won’t say you can give them a little, but just remember what you may do to that cute little pet if you give in to their begging.

7. Macadamia Nuts

We are not big Macadamia nut people, but I felt that it is important to add this nut.  It is important to know your nuts and to know they may be fatal to your pet.

WOW: In as few as six raw or roasted macadamias you can make them sick and begin to see signs of poisoning.  Mix this nut with a little chocolate and that pup you love may just die!  I would hate that and I am guilty of giving Macy a few.  Remember that she is little, I could have killed here.

8. Artificial Sugar

Those artificial sugars are not good for your pet.  Maybe you have been toning in those nutrients and cutting carbs and wanted to cheat with some xylitol sweetened candy?  Well, just don’t share with the little pet of yours. Eventually it could cause seizures and lead to liver failure within a few days.

9. Chocolate

We all love chocolate and so many times Macy has come and tried beg her way to a piece of my favorite Ikea Chocolate.  I always knew it was bad, just not sure how bad.

CHECK THIS OUT: Theobromine, is the chemical that will potential harm your little pet.  The darker the chocolate the more dangerous it is.  Never give it to your pet in any form.  Things to look for if you think your pet got into some of this stuff; Vomiting, Diarrhea, Excessive Thirstiness.  It can potentially cause irregular heart rhythms, tremors, seizures, and even death!

10. Fat Trimmings & Bones

Macy can certainly beg with the best of them and I generally am the one who caves and gives her some of my food.  I certainly have become more careful after having done some research.  This one struck me, because I always hook Macy up with some of my ribs (I even leave some good stuff on them).  Be careful in what you are giving your pet.

WHY: Fat trimmings can cause pancreatitis and while it’s almost natural to “give a dog a bone.” That bone may splinter and cause an obstruction or do more damage and cause a laceration of the digestive tract.

Final Thoughts

Dog being walked, Macy on a tripMacy on a recent camping trip!
Well it is certain that I love my pet.  I will probably occasionally give Macy a bone, but I will watch her and take it away as it get smaller.  I will probably give her a piece of garlic chicken, but just not all the time.  I will say this, after all this research Rochel and myself will be much better watchers on what Macy gets.

Be careful in what you are feeding your pet.  If you love them and want to keep the vet bills down, find a food that they like and stick with it.  If your dog is just not liking the food you are putting down, we are planning on putting out a cook book that will be free or very cheap in the near future.  In the meantime be careful, watch your pet, and of course spend a bunch of time with them.  It will make you feel better and them happy!

Remember:It's a smart idea to always keep the numbers of your local vet, the closest emergency clinic, and the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center -- (888) 426-4435 in a handy place.

The Beginning

PictureThese are our first pictures along with my first time using photoshop! (Rochel is pictured with what is now one of Macy's toys.)
Let’s just start this blog off from the beginning.
I found myself with 2000 pet carriers and no idea what to do next.  Sure I had sold items on Amazon and Ebay, but nothing like this!  Finally the day came and the freight company dropped them off at my door.  For two months I worked with my wife and a few other people to figure out how to get this off the ground.
Let me be clear, when I was younger I loved pets, but as an adult I did not have one or really want one.  Our original pictures we took used a stuffed dog.  At the time we really had no idea what to do.  Thanks to a partner (David Munn) we were able to figure these things out and get our new product, the Cozy Courier into Amazon.
These carriers arrived a few weeks before Christmas and slowly started to sell.  I was so scared, but with time sales grew and we decided to expand on the Cozy Courier and that led us to Cozy Courier Pet Products.  So over time we have been able to add products and build a great customer base.  I told my wife (Rochel) one day we should look at dogs.  We had talked a little about getting a pet and Rochel had really wanted one.  After walking around looking at different pets we came across the little one you see in all our pictures now.
Macy has been such an awesome part of our family.  She certainly is not just a pet, but a family member.  I have quickly learned as we have grown close to Macy that pets are a big part of the family.  She is a friend in our low times and inspiration in our high times.  She certainly knows how to brighten our days!
We hope that you will enjoy this blog as it grows.  This is only the first post and just a little about how we started.  We have some recipes that we will be sharing, some funny stories and pictures of Macy and different product updates.  We will also try to put important articles together that are informative for the care of your pet.  (We are still learning all the ins and outs of caring for a little family member)

Thanks for reading!

What Our Customers Are Saying

-Along with my husband's lighted beanie, this pet light makes it possible for nighttime walks. They are also visible to others at long distances. He can let the dog run off leash and know exactly where he is, even from far away. No directions, but easy to use. Pinch the device firmly to cycle through full on, fast or slow strobe, and off. Batteries lasted about 2 months of long evening walks.
-Contacted the seller because one of the lights was malfunctioning. He was very prompt and courteous in replying to me and sent out a new product immediately. Highly recommended.
